Authorized by the government of Shandong Province and the Education Ministry of the People's Republic of China, Shandong Shenghan Finance and Trade Vocational College is founded on the basis of Shandong United University, and it is a private comprehensive college. In 1999, Shandong Great Wall Group Inc. invested nearly 100 million yuan to found Shandong United University and began to recruit students. In 2000, it co-operated with Shandong Normal University in running schools to recruit higher vocational students and became one of the earliest higher vocational schools, which can offer three-year programs. In 2001, authorized by the government of Shandong Province (Lu Zheng Zi [2001] No. 370) and the Education Ministry of the People’s Republic of China, Shandong Shenghan Finance and Trade Vocational College is founded on the basis of Shandong United University, made it become a full-time comprehensive college, which can enroll students statewide.

The college adheres to the principle of “one central task, two basic groups, standard administration and vocational characteristics”. And the motto “take teaching as the focus and the teaching reform the core” shows its advantage in enhancing the development of the college and becomes the major driving force to further flourishing. In the past eight years, the college adapts himself to the needs of the social and economical development, and formulates the policy of “ to offer full services, to create more job opportunities, to improve students’ applied competence, to combine study with actual practice, to form distinctive characteristics and to focus on the training of academic and skilled teachers and the students’ exercitation”, to promote the integration of production, teaching and research, to cultivate students’ ability to practice and work, and finally to train many modern talents with knowledge, competence and quality, rolled into one.

The college lies in the university town in Jinan Economic and Technical Development Zone, and the campus covers an area of more than 400 acres, and 250,000 square kilometers of floor space. With a favorable geographical position, the college is like a self-contained city with complete facilities like post offices, banks, etc. And it is famous for its beautiful scenery, with an afforestation rate of 85%. And it is equipped with accountant simulation labs, tour hotel accommodation labs, tour restaurant labs, computer hardware labs, digital circuits labs, analog circuitry labs, electrician labs, computer principle and interface labs, machinist practice centers, automobile engineering practice centers, multi-media language labs, photographic studios, photography darkroom, simulative courts, etc. And there are more than 1,000 computers in our computer center, 540,000 books and more than 200 sorts of magazines and journals in our library. Besides, the college established electronic reading rooms earlier than its counterparts, which hold hundreds of thousands of electronic books, available for hundred of students to surf on the Internet.

With more than 10,000 students, the college has schools as follows: School of Finance and Trade, School of Business Administration, School of Information Engineering, School of Automobile Engineering, School of Foreign Languages, School of Artistic Design, Law School, etc. and has 35 3-year programs which participate national student admission and 19 4-year programs which serve the Examination for self-taught students. These programs specialize in 10 sorts: finance and trade, information, manufacture, construction, transportation, cultural education, tourism, artistic media, law, public project, etc., including 5 specialized majors: electronic accounting, business administration, computer applied technique, flash design and production, and automobile maintenance techniques.

The total number of our teaching staff is 600. Most of them are from Shandong University, Shandong Normal University, Shandong University of Science and Technology, etc. among which there are 22% professors, 28.7% associate professors, 50.7% teachers of senior technical titles. Among those professors, there are 6 enjoying national allowance, 15 doctorial tutors, 31 master’s tutors, 5 top-notch teachers at the provincial level, and 11 university inspectors. Furthermore, the college has formed the system to offer professional teachers some opportunities to attend technical training and practice, encourage young teachers to be “academic and skilled teachers”.

In recent years, the college has found education cooperation with various enterprises, and Great Wall Group Inc. and its branches can offer many job opportunities as well as practice sites. The college reaches practice agreements with Sofitel Silver Plaza Hotel, Shandong Zhengyi Law Office, Jinan Intermediate People’s Court, Shandong People’s Friendship Association, and implements “Order-oriented cultivation” mode with the help of Jinan Jiabao Dairy Co.,Ltd. , Shandong Hanlin Hotel and so on, which affords more job opportunities.

By the end of 2004, the College Board confirmed the goal to build first-class vocational college in the following five years, and settled Professor Kong Xianduo as the president, who was the former vice president of University of Maryland, U.S.A. and now is the vice president of Hongkong University of Science and Technology. In 2005, the college passed the cultivation level assessments performed by Shandong Department of Education, which aimed to check the work of 34 vocational colleges and adult colleges. The college will persist in Deng Xiaoping Theory and “Three Representatives” Thought, and carry out the scientific development strategy to keep the steady and rapid development. Now, the whole college unites together to realize the goal of becoming a regular university in 2010.
